7A- Testing the Hypotheis Part 1

A production company located in South Florida, that records, mixes, and masters local musician's music, as well as sells instrumentals and music video shoots.

The who: Any musician in South Florida that needs to record any type of music or visual.

The what: The technical skills necessary to create a quality song or music video.

The why: There are many musicians that do not have experience in recording, creating instrumentals, or shooting music videos.

Testing the who: There are people outside of South Florida that could also use this production company for mixing and mastering, since you can do that without being in the same location.

Testing the what: The boundaries of the need revolve around the skillset our production team encompasses. It is one thing to create a music video, but it is another thing to get drone footage over an abandoned island. Also, it is one thing to create an instrumental, but it is another thing to create a symphony.

Testing the why: The people who would use our production company and skills would do so because they most likely lack the experience and/or equipment required to do so. Our company would have all the recording mics, DAW's, software, and video cameras needed to complete each individualized task for our customer.

The first person I interviewed was my friend Nico. He is a sound engineer in South Florida and went to Full Sail University for music production. When I pitched the idea to him, he knew immediately it was needed. There are a lot of starting musicians in South Florida and a lot of them do not have any skills in terms of production is a summary of what he said. He also told me that the biggest need would be that of selling beats, recording, mixing, and mastering. He said that music videos are important, but they are probably the last needed on the list. Lastly, he said I should go for it, but I need to create an experienced and passionate team.

The second person I interviewed was my friend Matt. He is a film major right now at the University of Florida, and he also took a liking to the idea. He said that he is busy with school right now, but he definitely wants to help out as soon as he gets out of college or during breaks. Matt studies music videos and short films, so he knew that there was a demand for the skills necessary to make a real music video. He then told me that he wanted to create a similar production company for just film, and that's when I offered him to merge his company with mine.

The third person I interviewed was my friend Nick. Nick has been my friend since high school, and he recently just switched his major to English. He is getting into writing music and I contacted him because I knew this would be an opportunity he might be interested in. After telling him the idea, he agreed that it was needed. He actually said he knew a lot people who were looking for a local producer. A producer is just someone who makes and records music for other people. He also said he would use the service provided if we had good deals. This brought me to the next stop of brainstorming on prices and deals.

The fourth person I interviewed was my friend Theo. He has been freestyling and writing music with me since high school and I knew he would give me the honest truth. He told me that I needed to have professional branding. I asked what he meant and he told me that I had to look as if I knew what I was doing. That means having a logo, having a whole team, and having all the info we ever need on a brochure or website. This gave me the idea to create stickers and brochures that I would strategically place around South Florida. Every time someone would look at the sticker, they would see the opportunity. The sticker would have the logo, name, and services provided, as well as contact information.

The fifth person was my dad. He is very business and entrepreneurship oriented so I knew he would give good advice. First he told me that I needed to make sure I got an LLC to ensure that I would be doing it legally, in case it really blows up. Next he said that I had to get trademarks on my name and slogan. At this point, I didn't even think of a slogan yet, let alone a name. He then told me that the marketing is also very important, since just because there's a demand, that doesn't mean they will know I exist. Lastly he gave me good luck and support and that's all I really needed. He doesn't know much about music, but I showed him this YouTube account called Lyrical Lemonade and he saw that other people are doing this and making successful wages. I told him that South Florida needed it next, because there is no one doing all in one.

Overall, all of the feedback was very helpful. Each person gave a different perspective and that diversity was very helpful in terms of coming up with new ideas. I definitely need to create a name, logo, company, website, and then team. I think the team is going to be the most important though, because they are the foundation of the entire company itself. I need two great people who are experienced in audio engineering and at least one who has skills in filming and videography as well as editing. All in all, this assignment was a success.

6A- Identifying Opportunities in Economic and Regulatory Trends

1. Climate change is causing food prices to increase

I found this out on:

https://www.thebalance.com/top-usa-future-economic-trends-3305666

I believe that this means there needs to be new ways to grow food, that are more efficient, and controlled. My idea revolves around vertical farming, since it is the external natural disasters that are causing food prices to increase.

I think the protypical customer would be someone who buys a lot of produce, fruit, and grain.

The concept of vertical farming is logistically quite difficult, but usually the most difficult part is getting the funding necessary to embark on such a large venture.

The reason why I saw this opportunity is because I have been doing research on vertical farming for over a year now, and I have also been studying climate change in my anthropology classes.

2. Financial markets control oil and gas prices

I found this out on:

https://www.thebalance.com/top-usa-future-economic-trends-3305666

I believe this means we need to create a new decentralized form of currency, very similar to BitCoin, if not BitCoin itself. The reason is because we need to re-value our resources and bring in different forms of renewable energy technology, rather than continuing to burn fossil fuels.

I think the protypical customer would be the average American. Obviously, everyone uses money, and it will eventually apply to everyone in terms of energy usage.

It is quite difficult to create a crypto-currency due to the level of coding involved, but it is possible. It just takes a dedicated team with a clear vision.

I believe that I saw this opportunity because my dad has been investing in BitCoin for a while, and explained the concept to me a while ago. I think it will have another resurgence as well, and I discovered that through research.

3. The evolution of medical device regulation

I found this out on:

https://www.northeastern.edu/graduate/blog/regulatory-affairs-trends/

I believe this opportunity exists for cybersecurity services and companies. The regulations on medical devices, such as pacemakers and insulin delivery devices are now working with Bluetooth and the Cloud. This means that there needs to be top security on this software to prevent hacking.

I think the protypical customer would be someone who already has one of these medical devices installed, or someone who is planning on getting one, due to a current condition.

I do not know that much about cybersecurity, but I have heard that it is also a lot of coding. That coding would require a lot of time and patience, as well as an entire coding team. The hardest thing would probably be maintaining the monitoring of the software for any hackings that occur.

I have some friends who are really into coding, so I think this may be why I saw this opportunity more than someone else. I also have friends who have family with electronic medical devices, so I thought of them as well.

4. Regulation of clinical trials

I found this out on:

https://www.northeastern.edu/graduate/blog/regulatory-affairs-trends/

I believe the opportunity that presented itself is the opportunity for all survey companies and services. This article explains how most pharma companies are switching from blood tests to patient feedback forms in order to also take the patient's emotions and feedback into account. This in turn, requires many surveys and questionnaires, which an external company could provide at a cost.

I think the protypical customer would be that of someone who is currently testing medication for a company, and would also like to make some money from it.

I don't think this would be difficult at all, because all it would require is someone to create template questionnaires with questions that need to be answered. The only other part would be organizing and presenting the data.

I think I thought of this because a lot of my older family is taking medication for certain conditions, so I thought that they would probably take a survey to explain their experience, if they got something in return.

5A- Identifying Local Opportunities

1. Naked suspect vandalizes Miramar High for ‘entire day,’ leaves $100K in damage, cops say

https://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/crime/article243015546.html

Apparently this man snuck onto Miramar High School's property, while being naked, and caused over a hundred thousand dollars in damages. His biggest target was destroying TV's and Computers. It is said that the damage will definitely affect students.

The problem lies in a lack of security. There should be a surveillance team there during the day and the night, to ensure that no one trespasses onto property and destroys anything valuable.

Miramar High School is the entity that has the problem right now. They are the party that currently has the damage done to their end.

2. It’s not over yet. South Florida could see a new round of storms and flooding

Miami and County Dade have seen a lot of overflowing lakes, canals, and pools in the area. This is because of the three straight days of heavy rain. Some people are even saying that their cars are floating in the street, because of the water rise. Others, have just lost electricity.

The problem lies in lack of preparation. There needs to be more sandbags, blockages, helpful warnings. All of these help people prepare better for natural disasters like this. If people sandbag their homes, there's a better chance they won't get flooded.

South Florida homeowners and business owners are the people experiencing the problem right now and are most at risk.

3. Water main break because of heavy rains leads to boil water notice in Hallandale Beach

https://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/community/broward/article243007841.html

Due to the very heavy rains, there was a malfunction with some of the pipes carrying water to the Hallandale Beach area. This has caused a massive warning to all homeowners that they should boil all of their water before drinking or using it. This therefore will get rid of any bacteria or pathogens that could potentially harm them.

The problem is caused by old pipes and outdated infrastructure. We need microgrid water supplies rather than large pipes still carrying our water from far away. It is up to the local government to make this decision, but oftentimes the funding is the biggest issue.

South Florida homeowners and the local government are most at risk right now, and have to deal with this extra responsibility at this time.

4. Another 138 tons of frozen food recalled after customers found rocks in the entrees

https://www.miamiherald.com/living/food-drink/article242957811.html

Yet again, there is another recall of a popular brand of frozen food. There have been many complaints to the FDA, that there are small rocks in these frozen food packages. It is unknown whether the chickens involved ate the small rocks, or the small rocks just got into the packaging, but either way, many of these packages have been recalled.

The problem is not enough double checking by food manufacturers. There should be a solid inspection of every single package before it is sent out into the real world. If it isn't there is a chance that something dangerous could happen, like someone swallowing the rocks and getting sick.

Everyone who eats and buys this brand's food is at risk, and that is why the recall is currently happening.

5. Trump Jr. says social media giants that discriminate against conservatives should lose government protections

http://www.sfltimes.com/news/video-trump-jr-says-social-media-giants-that-discriminate-against-conservatives-should-lose-government-protections

In this article, it explains how Trump Jr. does not agree with how Twitter is handling the fact check that Twitter put on Donald Trump's tweets. He believes they are interfering with the election and there is political bias involved. Donald Trump has threatened to serve an order to social media companies to tale care of what he sees as a problem.

The problem is the lack of clear lines in terms of social media that define political bias. Social media companies have been in hot water in the past, due to the fact that they have not censored false information, so some could see this as a step moving forward, while others see it as a violation of free speech. There needs to be clear, linguistic rules in terms of free speech on social media platforms.

Everyone who is on social media has this same issue, but this current article mostly relates just to the President of the United States.

3A- Entrepreneurial Story

When I was a little kid, my dad always told me about entrepreneurship. He started an ice cone business and some Massage Envy locations as well. I told myself from that point on that I never wanted to work for anybody else. It wasn’t until freshman year of college that I finally had the time and the opportunity to think of a business worthy idea. I came up with two main ones and then told my dad when I came home for winter break. He told me that the first one wasn’t something I could patent, but the second one was. We went forward and got the patent, and then from that point on, I made the business plan and coordinated all of the manufacturers. We had to get a FDA approved kitchen and then we manufactured 1700 ourselves. We used these as the beta testers for our control group. Once we realized people liked them, we started selling, but we realized we needed more help. We happened to run into the friend of a famous CEO in our industry and this lead us to eventually having the opportunity to pitch to him. My business partner and I have perfected our business plan and at this time, we are in the final stages of pitching. Hopefully it will be this week.

I hope to get a sense of creativity from this class. I want to feel as though I’m really thinking about problem solving and infusing my own passions as well. There’s so many problems in the world, that we can’t fix them all, but we can fix the ones we choose. We choose them because we hold sentimental value with some of them, and if I’m able to make a change with those, then I’ll be happy. I want to leave the earth a better place than I found it and I hope this class can help with that.

Why?

They are built with strong enough foundations

  1. Electric cars still burn fossil fuels

Because they are texting or not paying attention

  1. There is not enough food in the world

Why?

The environment does not always permit growth of certain foods

  1. People are not passionate about their jobs

Why?

They don’t feel purpose or their own creative potential

When thinking of these bugs, I really just looked at my own life and saw all of the problems. A lot of them happen on a daily scale, but not all of them are things I can visually see. Climate change for example is just something that is invisible until it isn’t. The visual factor is rising sea levels. Air pollution can be visible and so can a car front bumper. The difficulty comes in remembering these problems, because we tend to see the good things in life before the bad things. It took a while to get started, but once I did, I couldn’t stop. Many of these problems we all share together. I think it’s important we find the bugs so we can create the solutions.
