6A- Identifying Opportunities in Economic and Regulatory Trends

1. Climate change is causing food prices to increase

I found this out on:

I believe that this means there needs to be new ways to grow food, that are more efficient, and controlled. My idea revolves around vertical farming, since it is the external natural disasters that are causing food prices to increase.

I think the protypical customer would be someone who buys a lot of produce, fruit, and grain.

The concept of vertical farming is logistically quite difficult, but usually the most difficult part is getting the funding necessary to embark on such a large venture.

The reason why I saw this opportunity is because I have been doing research on vertical farming for over a year now, and I have also been studying climate change in my anthropology classes.

2. Financial markets control oil and gas prices

I found this out on:

https://www.thebalance.com/top-usa-future-economic-trends-3305666

I believe this means we need to create a new decentralized form of currency, very similar to BitCoin, if not BitCoin itself. The reason is because we need to re-value our resources and bring in different forms of renewable energy technology, rather than continuing to burn fossil fuels.

I think the protypical customer would be the average American. Obviously, everyone uses money, and it will eventually apply to everyone in terms of energy usage.

It is quite difficult to create a crypto-currency due to the level of coding involved, but it is possible. It just takes a dedicated team with a clear vision.

I believe that I saw this opportunity because my dad has been investing in BitCoin for a while, and explained the concept to me a while ago. I think it will have another resurgence as well, and I discovered that through research.

3. The evolution of medical device regulation

I found this out on:

I believe this opportunity exists for cybersecurity services and companies. The regulations on medical devices, such as pacemakers and insulin delivery devices are now working with Bluetooth and the Cloud. This means that there needs to be top security on this software to prevent hacking.

I think the protypical customer would be someone who already has one of these medical devices installed, or someone who is planning on getting one, due to a current condition.

I do not know that much about cybersecurity, but I have heard that it is also a lot of coding. That coding would require a lot of time and patience, as well as an entire coding team. The hardest thing would probably be maintaining the monitoring of the software for any hackings that occur.

I have some friends who are really into coding, so I think this may be why I saw this opportunity more than someone else. I also have friends who have family with electronic medical devices, so I thought of them as well.

4. Regulation of clinical trials

I found this out on:

I believe the opportunity that presented itself is the opportunity for all survey companies and services. This article explains how most pharma companies are switching from blood tests to patient feedback forms in order to also take the patient's emotions and feedback into account. This in turn, requires many surveys and questionnaires, which an external company could provide at a cost.

I think the protypical customer would be that of someone who is currently testing medication for a company, and would also like to make some money from it.

I don't think this would be difficult at all, because all it would require is someone to create template questionnaires with questions that need to be answered. The only other part would be organizing and presenting the data.

I think I thought of this because a lot of my older family is taking medication for certain conditions, so I thought that they would probably take a survey to explain their experience, if they got something in return.
